Copenhagen Round 2 - June 25

After leaving Goteborg, we had a 5 hour train in the morning back to Copenhagen, since that's pretty much the only way in and out of Scandinavia. We played a lot of cards and tried to catch up on our journaling, which is such a pain sometimes - I want to have a journal after the trip, but its hard to get motivated when you are behind! In Copenhagen we stayed at the same hostel as our first trip, so the familiarity was nice.

We had two main goals upon returning to Copenhagen, the first being to try eating at a Smorgasbord restaurant, which is apparently a favorite food in Denmark. Basically the Smorrebrod, as they call it, is a openfaced sandwich with any number of things on it. Pretty vague. But we did find a place and got three little sandwiches each - they were good, but nothing special in my opinion.

Our second goal was to visit the Carlsberg Brewery. Since it was about a 20 minute walk from the hostel, we decided to try renting some of the city bikes, which are free. Someone at our hostel told us that we can find them at different bike racks all over Copenhagen, but we looked with very little luck, and finally found one haha. So we stuck the coin in, which pops the special lock out (when you return it to one of these bike racks anywhere in the city, you pop a lock back in and get your coin back - sweet!) and then we wheeled it around with us until we finally found another one. The ride to Carlsberg was nice, although bumby on the cobblestone, and especially fun because so many people in the city bike, and we got to use the cool bike lane. And it was really fun for Kasey since she just learned to bike last year!

Because of all the bike drama, we got to Carlsberg a little later than expected, so we hurried through the tour, which included the largest collection of beer bottles in the world and the Carlsberg horses, which were huge! Then we got two free beers at the bar (more like "free" since we had paid to get in...) which was fun, we didn't like a lot of their specialty/seasonal beers, so we just had the traditional Carlsbergs and Tuborgs, and it was very fun! We finished right as they closed up at 4:15.

When we went to leave, however, we discovered that our bikes were stolen! There wasn't a city bike rack at the brewery, so we just had to leave them at a normal bike rack with no locks... and we figure some other tourists took them, since they are public bikes, and didn't realize that we had money inside.... oh well, it was only like 3 euros, and we probably shouldn't have been biking after two beers each anyway...?

We walked back towards the hostel, and ended up walked around a few neighborhoods before going back to the same kebab place we had eaten at last time, since we knew we'd have enough food for dinner and pita sandwiches to take with us!

Lastly, it was the semifinal game of the Eurocup soccer tournament - Germany vs. Turkey, and we were definitely pulling for Germany since, if they won, we would in in Germany while they played in the finals. We watched the game in the hostel with a bunch of people, and it was a really exciting game, not to mention that they were having problems broadcasting it, so at some crucial points near the end we didn't even know what was happening! Luckily Germany won, so we were happy about that! We went back to our creaky hostel beds and slept since we were getting up so early the next morning to leave for Germany!
